Gerry was the kind of person who made everyone feel like they mattered, a rare quality that’s left a lasting impression on me and so many others. From the beginning, Gerry welcomed me into the family with open arms. He had this way of making you feel not just accepted, but truly seen and appreciated. His warm, generous nature went beyond words—it was in his actions, his attention to the little things, and his endless support.

He loved people wholeheartedly and showed it in so many ways. I’ll always remember how he’d go out of his way to be there for each of us, from showing up to every family event to offering advice when we needed it most. And even with all his wisdom, he never pushed his opinions but shared them in a way that made you feel he genuinely believed in you. That confidence he had in all of us was a gift he gave freely, and it’s one I hold close.

Gerry’s humor was another piece of him I loved. He could lighten any room, no matter what. It was like he had this sixth sense for knowing when someone needed a lift or just a laugh, and he’d crack a joke or flash that mischievous grin, instantly making you feel at ease. It didn’t matter if it was at a big family gathering or just sitting around, talking about life—he had this special way of making everyone feel included and loved.

But what stands out most to me is how Gerry stayed so true to himself and his values. He cared deeply about his community, about giving back, and about creating lasting relationships that extended beyond family. When we’d go out for a beer together, people would constantly stop by the table to say hello or share a story about him—stories of how he helped them buy their first home, gave a piece of advice that changed their path, or simply showed up when they needed a friend. Gerry’s life was full of these small acts of kindness, woven together into a legacy of love and connection that touched everyone he knew.

As I think about Gerry’s life, I’m filled with gratitude for the years I had with him and for the countless memories he’s left with us. He’s a part of who I am and who I strive to be. He lived with a sense of purpose and joy that I aspire to carry forward, even though nothing will fill the space he’s left. His kindness, his laughter, and his love will always be with us, a reminder of a truly great man who made the world a better place just by being in it.
